Summary
Alaska Medicaid has clarified telehealth billing requirements, mandating use of modifier FQ for audio-only services (CPT codes 98966-98968 and 99441-99443) effective March 1, 2022. Claims for audio-only services without the FQ modifier will be denied.
Action Required
For dates of service on or after March 1, 2022: Billing team must add modifier FQ when billing CPT codes 98966-98968 and 99441-99443 for audio-only services. Do NOT use telehealth modifiers for CPT codes 98970-98972 and 99421-99423. Update billing system rules to prevent claim denials for audio-only services. Use place of service codes 02 or 10 for all telehealth services.
