Summary
Maryland Medicaid requires Behavioral Technicians (BTs) upgrading to Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) to submit a NEW enrollment application under provider type RB with RBT certification by July 31, 2026, before the August 1 MPRIME system hold. Current BT provider IDs will be terminated upon approval of the new RBT account. Providers missing the deadline cannot upgrade until October 2026.
Action Required
By July 31, 2026: Identify all Behavioral Technicians employed or contracted by the practice who hold RBT certification or are pursuing RBT credential upgrade. Assist each BT in submitting a NEW enrollment application through ePREP under provider type RB (not updating existing BT accounts) with a copy of their RBT Certification attached. Billing team must update provider records and credentialing files to reflect new Provider Medicaid IDs upon approval. Terminate old BT-level Provider Medicaid IDs from billing system once new RBT IDs are activated. Document the transition date for each BT to BT/RBT provider ID mapping for claim submission. Failure to submit by July 31, 2026 will prevent credential upgrades until October 2026 when MPRIME becomes available, causing potential service interruptions.
