Summary
Maryland Medicaid updated enrollment requirements for Behavior Technicians (BTs) rendering ABA services, effective July 1, 2022. BTs must now enroll using specialty code 325, enter 'BT' as the license number, and provide proof of RBT certification by January 1, 2023 to maintain Medicaid enrollment. This guidance supersedes previous transmittal PT 40-22.
Action Required
By January 1, 2023: Billing and credentialing teams must verify that all Behavior Technicians have submitted proof of RBT certification to Maryland Medicaid and are properly enrolled in ePREP using specialty code 325. Immediately notify all BT staff to update their ePREP enrollment by July 1, 2022 using the new instructions (specialty code 325, license number 'BT', expiration date December 31, 2022). Failure to obtain RBT certification and maintain compliant enrollment by January 1, 2023 will result in loss of Medicaid provider status and claim denials for all ABA services rendered by non-compliant BTs.
