Summary
Maryland Medicaid is waiving the requirement for Behavior Technicians (BTs) to hold Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through December 31, 2022. BTs must still enroll in Medicaid via ePREP using specialty code 318 and enter 'RBT Pending' as the license number. All BTs must obtain full RBT certification and submit proof by January 1, 2023 to maintain Medicaid enrollment.
Action Required
By January 1, 2023: Billing team must verify that all Behavior Technicians rendering ABA services have submitted proof of RBT certification to Maryland Medicaid. Immediately: Update provider enrollment records in ePREP for all BTs currently enrolled or applying, using specialty code 318 with 'RBT Pending' as the license number and December 31, 2022 as the expiration date. Beginning January 1, 2023: Only BTs with active RBT certification from BACB will be eligible to bill Medicaid for ABA services. Claims from uncertified BTs will be denied. Billing team must monitor expiration dates and remove or suspend any BTs who do not obtain certification by the deadline.
