Immediately: All pay-to providers (payees) must obtain unique NPI numbers by visiting https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/. Payees must share their NPI information with billing providers. Billing teams should start reporting NPI information for each designated payee to HFS via www.myhfs.illinois.gov or fax to 217-557-8800. Continue using 1-digit payee codes until further notification. Failure to comply will result in claim denials, lack of payment, or inappropriate payments to wrong payees.
