The implementation has been delayed, but providers must register their NPIs with the department and update their electronic claim submission processes to use proper NPI reporting in specific loops.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Register all provider and payee NPIs with Illinois Medicaid by calling 217-782-0538, faxing NPPES approval letters to 217-557-8800, or using the MEDI website. Update billing system to report Billing Provider NPI in Loop 2010AA and Rendering Provider NPI in Loop 2310B for 837P electronic claims. Do NOT submit claims with Pay-To Provider NPI unless verified that the NPI is registered to the appropriate 16-digit payee number. Claims without proper NPI registration will be rejected.
