Summary
Michigan Medicaid updated COVID-19 ICD-10 coding guidance, introducing new diagnosis codes Z1152 and Z20822 for dates of service starting January 1, 2021. Services billed with these COVID-19 related diagnosis codes are exempt from co-pays, and providers must refund previously collected co-pays for affected claims.
Action Required
Immediately: Update billing system to use new ICD-10 codes Z1152 (COVID-19 screening) and Z20822 (COVID-19 exposure) for dates of service January 1, 2021 onwards. Review previously submitted claims with COVID-19 diagnosis codes where co-pays were collected and refund co-pay amounts to Michigan Medicaid beneficiaries. Affected institutional and pharmacy claims will be automatically reprocessed, but pharmacies must resubmit claims to receive full reimbursement.
