Summary

Michigan Medicaid introduces new COVID-19 diagnosis code U07.1 effective April 1, 2020, adds three new testing procedure codes, and waives all co-pays for confirmed COVID-19 treatment services. Billing teams must update systems to use the new codes and ensure co-pays are not collected for COVID-19 related services.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Update billing systems to use ICD-10 code U07.1 for confirmed COVID-19 cases (replacing B97.29 after April 1, 2020). Add new testing codes U0001, U0002, and 87635 to system. Configure systems to suppress co-pays for all services billed with B97.29 or U07.1 diagnosis codes. Refund any co-pays already collected for COVID-19 services back to January 1, 2020. Train staff to not collect co-pays for COVID-19 treatment. Resubmit pharmacy claims to receive full reimbursement.
