Summary
Michigan Medicaid will temporarily reimburse Tribal Health Centers and Tribal FQHCs for COVID-19 specimen collection services using CPT codes 99000 and 99001 with specific ICD-10 diagnosis codes. This supplements existing COVID-19 specimen collection policy MSA 20-57 and requires that all other financial resources be exhausted before billing Medicaid.
Action Required
For Tribal Health Centers and Tribal FQHCs only: Update billing systems to allow CPT codes 99000 and 99001 for COVID-19 specimen collection on institutional claim formats with required ICD-10 diagnosis codes Z03.818, Z11.59, or Z20.828. Ensure all other funding sources are exhausted before billing Medicaid and that no other qualifying clinic visit occurs on the same date of service.
