Summary
New Jersey Medicaid has updated reimbursement rates and procedures for IUD insertion and removal services, introducing new HCPCS codes (W0001, W0002, W0004, W0008) with higher payment rates and requiring specific family planning indicators on claims. The policy also adds anesthesia basic units and 30-day follow-up periods for these procedures.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update claim forms to include family planning indicators in Item 24H (code '2' for family planning services or '3' for patients under 21). Replace old IUD billing codes with new HCPCS codes W0001, W0002, W0004, and W0008 with updated fee schedules. Submit FD-999 Claims Adjustment Forms to request additional reimbursement for claims already paid at previous rates for dates of service on or after January 1, 1998.
