Summary
The IHCP set Medicaid coverage, pricing and diagnosis coding guidance for COVID-19 testing and related services. Testing is covered for all IHCP members, including limited-benefit programs, and pricing and outpatient revenue code linkages were updated effective April 21, 2020. For diagnosis coding, the IHCP generally follows CDC guidance, and U07.1 is used for dates of service from April 1, 2020 through September 30, 2020.

01Already effective April 21, 2020: Billing team should check current applicability of these COVID-19 billing rules before billing them.
02Bill 87635 on a professional claim at 30% of billed charges, or on an outpatient claim linked to revenue code 300 or 310 at 15% of billed charges.
03Link outpatient claims for G2023 and G2024 to revenue code 300, and link U0001 and U0002 to revenue code 300 or 310.
04Claims that previously denied for invalid revenue code linkages may be resubmitted.
05For Z03.818, Z11.59 and Z20.828, a professional claim must show the diagnosis at the detail level and an outpatient claim must list it as primary.
06For limited-benefit categories, claims must include an approved diagnosis from the appropriate code set.
07For dates of service from April 1, 2020 through September 30, 2020, use U07.1 when the member has been tested and the result is confirmed or presumptive positive.
08Only CLIA-certified labs may bill for the actual COVID-19 tests.
