Summary
Effective July 1, 2025, Cigna Healthcare Garden State plan customers must use in-network providers located only in New Jersey through the new Open Access Plus (OAP) NJ Network. Services provided outside New Jersey (except emergencies) will not be covered and claims will be denied, leaving patients responsible for full payment.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must verify all Cigna Healthcare Garden State plan patients (identifiable by sample ID card format shown in policy) are only receiving services from NJ-based providers. Update patient verification procedures to check provider service location is in New Jersey before scheduling. Flag these patients in scheduling system with location restriction reminder. Claims for out-of-state services will be denied and patients will owe full charges.
