Acoustic Pharyngometers and SNAP Testing System (CPB 0336, reviewed 2026-05-20)
Summary
Aetna considers SNAP Testing using 3 or more channels a medically necessary device for home diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea in adults, according to the criteria in CPB 0004, and lists HCPCS G0400, a home sleep test with a type IV portable monitor using a minimum of 3 channels, as covered for adults only when selection criteria are met. Acoustic pharyngometry, such as the Eccovision Acoustic Pharyngometer, and SNAP Testing System versions using fewer than 3 channels are considered experimental, investigational, or unproven for screening, diagnosis, treatment planning, or prediction of surgical success in persons with suspected or known obstructive sleep apnea, and for all other indications. The policy lists no specific CPT or HCPCS code for acoustic pharyngometry.
