Summary

Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2024 has been automatically applied to patient liability calculations for nursing facilities and other institutional care settings. Facilities must review the COLA UPDATE REPORT and adjust patient payment amounts on Turn Around Documents (TADs) if differences exceed $5.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Nursing facilities and institutional care billing teams must review each recipient's COLA computation on the COLA UPDATE REPORT. Compare the NET INC AFTER column amount to the PATIENT PAYMENT AMOUNT on existing Turn Around Documents (TADs). If the difference is greater than $5, update the PATIENT PAYMENT AMOUNT on the TAD to reflect the actual patient liability amount and submit the corrected TAD to Unisys CNT in Trenton, NJ. Also notify the County Welfare Agency or Institutional Services Section (ISS) area office that a new PAL needs to be completed for the recipient.
