Summary

This is an informational notice regarding Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increases effective January. Nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities, and psychiatric hospitals must review COLA Update Reports generated by Paramax Unisys to verify patient payment calculations (NET INC AFTER amounts). If discrepancies greater than a specified threshold exist between the report and Turn Around Documents, facilities must update patient liability amounts and notify county welfare agencies.

Action Required

Action needed
Billing/administrative staff at nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities, and state/county psychiatric hospitals must: (1) Obtain the COLA Update Report printed by Paramax Unisys and forwarded in February; (2) Review the NET INC AFTER column for each recipient to verify accuracy of patient payment amounts; (3) If NET INC AFTER amount differs from the Turn Around Document (TAD) BLOCK amount by more than the threshold specified, update the patient payment amount on the TAD to reflect actual liability and submit the corrected TAD to Paramax Unisys CNT in Trenton, New Jersey; (4) Inform the County Welfare Agency or Institutional Services Section (ISS) area office that a new PAL (Patient Assistance Level) needs to be completed for affected recipients. Contact Ellen Keane at the Bureau of Claims and Accounts with questions.
