Summary
New Jersey Medicaid is adding 15 new HCPCS laboratory procedure codes with maximum fee allowances effective January 1, 2003, and deleting 17 existing laboratory codes effective May 1, 2003. Billing teams must use the new codes and stop using deleted codes on the specified dates.
Action Required
By May 1, 2003: Laboratory billing teams must update billing systems to use new HCPCS codes (83880, 84302, 85004, etc.) for services on/after January 1, 2003 and stop using deleted codes (80090, 85021, 85022, etc.) for services on/after May 1, 2003. Use specified replacement codes where crosswalks are provided (e.g., use 85007 or 85027 instead of 85023). Claims submitted with deleted codes after May 1 will be rejected.
