Lead Testing (CPB 0553, reviewed 2026-08-28)
Aetna considers blood lead testing medically necessary for diagnosis of persons with signs and symptoms of lead poisoning and for pregnant or lactating women who have any listed lead exposure risk factor. Lead screening is covered for persons with occupational lead exposure and, as a preventive service, for children in listed high-risk groups. Measurement of lead in bone, hair, teeth, or urine is considered experimental, investigational, or unproven.
