Non-Emergency Ground Ambulance (BSC10.02)
Blue Shield of California updated its Non-emergency Ground Ambulance medical policy (BSC10.02), effective November 1, 2026. The updated policy statement says non-ambulance transportation must be unsuitable due to patient safety concerns or medical contraindications, the destination must be the nearest appropriate healthcare facility or the individual's home from a healthcare facility after covered services, and a Provider Certification Statement is required, and criterion E now reads that non-emergency ground ambulance was used to transport the patient. Appendix A of the policy compares the earlier and updated policy statements.
