Summary
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island updated billing rules for specific HCPCS codes effective January 1, 2019. Several G-codes are no longer separately reimbursed, C9040 is not covered/not medically necessary, and C9044/C9045 require medical review for certain product lines.
Action Required
Immediately: Update billing system to stop separately billing codes G2001-G2009 and G2013-G2015 as they are bundled into other services. Remove C9040 from billing for BlueCHiP Medicare and mark as not medically necessary for Commercial. Configure prior authorization requirements for C9044 (all products) and C9045 (Commercial only). Notify patients in advance about non-covered services per provider agreement requirements.
