Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island has implemented January 2021 CPT and HCPCS code changes effective January 1, 2021. Multiple codes now require medical review/preauthorization, some codes are not covered, and others are not separately reimbursed.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update system to require preauthorization for codes C9069, C9070, C9072, C9073, J1823, J7352, J9144, J9223, J9316, J9317 (all plans) and Q5122 (commercial only). Stop billing C9071 and C9771 as they are not covered. Remove codes G2214, G2250, G2251, G2252 from institutional billing as they are not separately reimbursed. Update encounter forms and notify providers about non-covered services before rendering them.
