Summary
Effective January 1, 2027, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will expand its use of ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) Criteria 4.0 for medical necessity reviews of substance abuse and behavioral health services to include adolescents, in addition to the existing adult coverage. This standardizes utilization management criteria across age groups for addiction treatment services.
