Summary
Ambetter of North Carolina Inc. is implementing 37 clinical policy updates effective November 1, 2026, with 7 policies becoming less restrictive, 6 policies with mixed impacts, and 5 policies becoming more restrictive. Action Required
By October 15, 2026: (1) Billing team must review the 5 newly restrictive policies (CP.MP.185, HIM.CP.BH.500, CP.MP.129, CP.MP.164, CP.MP.49) and update authorization workflows in billing system accordingly—these require stricter documentation and prior auth review. (2) Update claim submission logic for the 7 less restrictive policies to allow previously denied claims. (3) Implement automatic denial logic for surrogacy claims: flag any claim with ICD-10 codes Z33.3 or Z31.7 for member review for one full year and deny all pregnancy-related services unless member notifies plan of surrogacy status using the Ambetter Notification of Surrogacy form. (4) Behavioral Health providers must update billing systems to use correct TOB codes: 11X for inpatient (POS 21), 86X for RTC (POS 56), 13X for hospital outpatient (POS 22), and 76X for CMHC (POS 53), with corresponding revenue codes 1001, 1002, 114, 116, 124, 126, 134, 136, 144, 146 for inpatient/RTC and 905, 906, 912, 913, 907 plus HCPCS codes H0015, H0035, S9480, 90834 for outpatient. Failure to comply will result in claim denials and recoupments. (5) Provider credentialing team must establish monthly roster submission process for both Wellcare North Carolina Medicare (Medicarencupdates@cch-network.com) and Ambetter of North Carolina Inc. (ambetterncproviderdirectoryrequest@centene.com) to ensure accurate provider directory listings and prevent claims processing delays.
