Summary
Aetna has classified Cardiac Contractility Modulation (CCM) therapy and all associated implantation, removal, and monitoring procedures as experimental, investigational, or unproven, effective immediately. This means all CCM-related CPT codes (0408T-0411T, 0915T-0931T, 0948T-0949T) and HCPCS codes (C1824, K1030) are NOT COVERED by Aetna and claims will be denied.
Action Required
Immediately effective March 3, 2026: Billing team must update all systems to flag and DENY all claims containing CPT codes 0408T, 0409T, 0410T, 0411T, 0915T-0931T, 0948T-0949T and HCPCS codes C1824 and K1030 when billed to Aetna plans. Add alert messaging in billing software indicating these codes are non-covered (experimental/investigational). Providers must be notified to NOT implant, remove, monitor, or provide CCM therapy for Aetna patients. Contact Aetna to inform patients of non-coverage and discuss alternative heart failure treatment options. Update encounter workflows to exclude CCM procedure templates for Aetna members. Failure to implement will result in automatic claim denials and patient balance issues.
