Summary
HFS is restarting collections on outstanding advance payments to nursing facilities effective September 1, 2026. Facilities with unpaid advances must sign a renegotiated advance payment agreement by August 15, 2026, or face immediate recoupment of outstanding balances. This applies only to long-term care (LTC) nursing facility providers in Illinois.
Action Required
By August 15, 2026 (DEADLINE): Nursing facility billing and administrative staff must immediately contact HFS and sign the renegotiated advance payment agreement template. Send signed and dated agreements to HFS.LTCAdvances@Illinois.gov before close of business Friday, August 14, 2026. Failure to renegotiate an advance payment agreement by this deadline will result in automatic recoupment of all outstanding unpaid advance payments starting September 1, 2026. Facilities with outstanding advances should check email from the HFS Bureau of Long Term Care for the new agreement template. Contact HFS.LTC@illinois.gov with questions.
