Summary
Connecticut Medical Assistance Program (CMAP) is end-dating CPT code 98943 (chiropractic manipulative treatment to regions other than spine) effective July 1, 2026. This procedure will no longer be eligible for reimbursement under CMAP, as the state is narrowing coverage to align with federal and state regulations that specify Medicaid coverage for chiropractor services as manual manipulation of the spine only. Chiropractors must update their billing practices to stop billing this code to CMAP.
Action Required
By June 30, 2026: Billing team must update billing software to deny or block CPT 98943 for all Connecticut CMAP claims effective July 1, 2026. Remove CPT 98943 from fee schedules and encounter forms used for CMAP billing. Notify all chiropractors and chiropractic groups in the practice that this code cannot be billed to CMAP after July 1, 2026. Download the updated CMAP fee schedule from www.ctdssmap.com to verify all current covered codes. Any claims submitted with CPT 98943 for CMAP dates of service on or after July 1, 2026 will be denied and may result in overpayment recovery.
