Summary
Blue Shield of California has issued a new policy classifying all rib remodeling procedures (including WASP, RIBOSS, RibXcar, and UUAIST) and clavicle shortening for body contouring as investigational and non-covered services. This policy becomes effective March 1, 2026.
Action Required
Before March 1, 2026: Billing team must update system to deny or flag all rib remodeling and clavicle shortening procedures for body contouring as investigational/non-covered for Blue Shield of California members. Update encounter forms and inform plastic surgery providers that these procedures will not be covered. Claims submitted after the effective date will be denied as investigational.
