Summary
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has implemented its Q1 2026 HCPCS code updates, adding 56 new codes and deleting 6 codes effective April 1, 2026. Most new skin substitute codes (A2040-A2045, Q4418-Q4440) are not covered, while new drug/injection codes (J-codes) and COVID-19 related codes are generally covered.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update coding system with all 56 new HCPCS codes and remove 6 deleted codes (C9145, C9307, C9308, L6000, L6010, L6020) effective April 1, 2026. Configure system to flag non-covered codes (most skin substitute A-codes and Q4000-series codes) to prevent claim denials. Set C9309 for manual review process. Update encounter forms and notify providers that most new skin substitute procedures will not be covered by BCBSM.
