Summary
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois will terminate provider record IDs (and associated network participation) if no claims are filed under the provider's NPI and TIN for 24 consecutive months. Providers must file at least one claim every 24 months to maintain their record ID and network status.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must identify all provider NPIs and TINs in the practice and verify recent claim submission activity. Create a tracking system to monitor claim filing dates for each provider NPI/TIN combination. Ensure at least one claim is filed under each provider's billing or rendering NPI and TIN within every 24-month period. For any providers approaching the 24-month threshold without claims, file a claim or risk network termination. If record IDs are already canceled, complete the provider onboarding form to reinstate network participation.
