Summary
Michigan Medicaid introduced new HCPCS codes for stand-alone COVID-19 and general vaccine counseling services effective December 1, 2022. Providers must stop using previous CPT codes (99401-99404) for COVID-19 vaccine counseling and switch to the new G-codes with time-based billing.
Action Required
By December 1, 2022: Billing team must update system to use new HCPCS codes G0314 and G0315 for stand-alone COVID-19 vaccine counseling for patients under 21. Discontinue use of CPT codes 99401, 99402, 99403, and 99404 for COVID-19 vaccine counseling. Add new G-codes (G0310, G0311, G0312, G0313) for general vaccine counseling based on patient age and time spent. Update encounter forms and train staff on time-based billing requirements.
