Summary
New Jersey Medicaid and NJ KidCare added new HCPCS procedure codes effective January 1, 1998, with associated maximum fee allowances for certified nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists across multiple service categories (surgical, immunizations, psychiatry, physical medicine, nursing facility discharge, and home services). Additionally, four psychiatry and home services codes are being deleted effective September 1, 1998.
Action Required
By January 1, 1998: Billing team must update the Certified Nurse Practitioners/Clinical Nurse Specialists Services Manual (N.J.A.C. 10:58A, Subchapter 4) to add the 22 new HCPCS codes with their maximum fee allowances in the billing system. Ensure all billing claims use the correct codes and fee schedules. By September 1, 1998: Remove codes 90843, 90844, 99351, and 99352 from the billing system for all claims with service dates on or after that date; claims using deleted codes will be denied. Update internal coding references and staff training materials to reflect both the additions (effective Jan 1) and deletions (effective Sept 1). Retain this newsletter in the services manual reference materials.
