Excellus BlueCross BlueShield updated their Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing policy effective April 17, 2025. NIPT is covered for singleton pregnancies screening for trisomies 21, 13, and 18, but multiple gestations, microdeletions, sex chromosome aneuploidy, and single-gene disorders are considered investigational and not covered.
Action Required
By April 17, 2025: Billing team must update system to deny coverage for CPT 0060U (twin zygosity testing) and CPT 81422 (microdeletion testing) for Excellus BlueCross BlueShield members. Ensure NIPT claims are only submitted for singleton pregnancies testing for trisomies 21, 13, and 18. Update encounter forms to alert providers that multiple gestation NIPT, microdeletions, sex chromosome aneuploidy, and single-gene disorder screening are not covered.
