Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CPB 0388, reviewed 2026-06-25)
Aetna covers alternative medicine interventions when they are supported by adequate evidence of safety and effectiveness in the peer-reviewed published medical literature, subject to benefit plan limitations and exclusions. Acupuncture, biofeedback, chelation therapy, chiropractic services and electrical stimulation are addressed under separate Aetna policies. Many other interventions are listed as experimental, investigational or unproven, including intravenous micronutrient therapy (Myers' Cocktail), Gua Sha, colon hydrotherapy and the Patricia Kane protocol, and standard benefit plans exclude nutritional supplements and medical marijuana.
