Erectile Dysfunction 7.01.30
Excellus BlueCross BlueShield medical policy 7.01.30 sets the criteria for treating erectile dysfunction (ED). Treatment is considered medically appropriate when symptoms have lasted more than six months and one of the listed modalities applies: oral drug therapy, intracavernous injection therapy, the transurethral MUSE system, vacuum constriction devices, penile prosthetic implants, or arterial revascularization. Treatment may start before six months for an acute event such as penile trauma or radical pelvic surgery, or for drug-induced ED caused by treatment of a co-morbid condition. The 10/22/26 revision is an annual review, and the policy intent is unchanged.
