Genetic Testing for FLT3, NPM1, CEBPA, IDH1, and IDH2 Variants in Cytogenetically Normal Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Genetic testing for FLT3 internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD), NPM1, CEBPA, IDH1 and IDH2 variants may be considered medically necessary in cytogenetically normal acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Genetic testing for these variants is considered investigational in all other situations, and testing for FLT3 tyrosine kinase domain (FLT3-TKD) variants is considered investigational. Testing for FLT3, NPM1 and CEBPA variants to detect minimal residual disease is also considered investigational, and the testing is intended to guide management decisions in individuals who would receive treatment other than low-dose chemotherapy or best supportive care.
