September 2017
Already effective September 1, 2017, BCBSRI requires providers to report the name and Type 1 NPI of the ordering provider on CMS-1500 claims or electronic submissions for laboratory, imaging, durable medical equipment and home infusion services, and missing or incomplete information results in the claim being rejected back to the provider. BCBSRI follows the Medicare NCCI, so for integumentary services an E/M service on the same date as a minor surgical procedure with a 000 or 010 day global period is included in the procedure payment, and modifier 25 applies only to a significant, separately identifiable E/M service. Effective October 1, 2017, removal of vagus nerve blocking therapy stimulation devices (CPT 0314T and 0315T) requires prior authorization for BlueCHiP for Medicare and commercial products, and CPT 69209 and 69210 are covered but not separately reimbursed effective November 1, 2017.
