Summary

BCBS RI is encouraging providers to use specific CPT Category II codes (3074F-3080F) when documenting blood pressure readings to help close care gaps and improve HEDIS quality measures for hypertension management. Using these codes can reduce administrative burden and avoid unnecessary record requests.

Action needed
Immediately: Train billing team and providers to use CPT Category II codes 3074F-3080F for all blood pressure readings during office visits for hypertensive patients. Update encounter forms and EMR templates to include these codes based on BP ranges (systolic <130, 130-139, ≥140 and diastolic <80, 80-89, ≥90).
