Summary
Washington State Apple Health (Medicaid) now covers monkeypox testing and vaccines retroactive to July 26, 2022. Three new CPT codes are covered: 87593 for monkeypox testing, 90611 for smallpox & monkeypox vaccine, and 90622 for vaccinia virus vaccine.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update system to recognize CPT codes 87593, 90611, and 90622 as covered services for Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) patients. Verify maximum allowable fees on HCA's updated fee schedules webpage. Begin billing these codes for services provided on or after July 26, 2022.
