Summary
Effective January 1, 2022, BCBS RI is changing mail order pharmacy vendors for commercial plans. Non-specialty medications will move from Alliance to Express Scripts Pharmacy, while specialty medications will move to Accredo. Most existing prescriptions will transfer automatically, but controlled substances, REMS medications, expired prescriptions, and prescriptions with no refills must be manually re-prescribed.
Action Required
By January 1, 2022: Providers must update EMR systems to e-prescribe to Express Scripts Home Delivery for non-specialty maintenance medications and to Accredo for specialty medications. Manually re-prescribe controlled substances, REMS medications, expired prescriptions, and prescriptions with no refills to the new vendors. For e-prescribing support, call 1-800-211-1456 option 5.
