Summary
Effective January 1, 2022, BCBS Rhode Island changed pharmacy mail order vendors from Alliance to Express Scripts for non-specialty medications and to Accredo for specialty medications for commercial plans only. Most existing prescriptions will transfer automatically, but providers must send new prescriptions to the new vendors after the effective date.
Action Required
After January 1, 2022: Update EMR systems to e-prescribe maintenance medications to Express Scripts Home Delivery and specialty medications to Accredo for BCBS RI commercial patients. Send new prescriptions for controlled substances, REMS medications, expired prescriptions, and prescriptions with no refills to the new vendors. Update provider portal access to use Accredo's provider portal at https://myAccredoPatients.com for specialty medication visibility.
