Summary
BCBSRI is implementing a new Place of Service (POS) code 10 for telemedicine services effective April 1, 2022, while also revising the description of existing POS code 02. Providers must accurately submit the appropriate POS codes (10 or 02) for all telemedicine services including audio-visual and telephone-only visits.
Action Required
By April 1, 2022: Billing team must update billing system to accept and properly use new POS code 10 for telemedicine services. Update encounter forms and billing software to distinguish between POS code 10 and revised POS code 02 for telehealth services. Continue using POS code 02 until March 31, 2022, then switch to appropriate POS codes based on service type. Incorrect POS coding may result in claim adjudication delays.
