Summary
BCBSRI implemented a new Place of Service (POS) code 10 for telemedicine services and revised the description for existing POS code 02. Both codes must now be accurately submitted for telemedicine claims (audio/visual and telephone-only) submitted on or after April 1, 2022.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update billing software to properly use POS code 10 and revised POS code 02 for all telemedicine services (both audio/visual and telephone-only). Update encounter forms and staff training to ensure correct POS code selection. Contact ProviderRelations@bcbsri.org for questions about proper code usage. Incorrect POS codes may result in claim processing delays or denials.
