Summary
Starting July 1, 2022, BCBS Rhode Island requires all claims with drug HCPCS/CPT codes to include a valid 11-digit National Drug Code (NDC). Claims missing NDC numbers or containing invalid NDC formats will be denied or rejected entirely.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update all claims with drug HCPCS/CPT codes to include valid 11-digit NDC numbers. Update billing software to require NDC entry for drug codes and validate 11-digit format. Train staff on NDC requirements for coordination of benefits claims where BCBS RI is secondary payer. Claims without valid NDC numbers will be denied or rejected entirely.
