Summary
BCBSRI will stop covering Remicade effective January 1, 2023, and switch to covering biosimilar products Avsola and Inflectra instead. Providers must transition patients to the biosimilars or submit Coverage Exception forms for continued Remicade coverage.
Action Required
Before January 1, 2023: Providers must contact all patients currently on Remicade to discuss switching to Avsola or Inflectra biosimilars. For patients requiring continued Remicade therapy, complete and submit Coverage Exception forms to Prime Therapeutics beginning January 1, 2023. Update patient records and treatment plans accordingly. Failure to take action will result in Remicade coverage denial after December 31, 2022.
