D-SNP coinsurance reminder
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island·RI·Provider Update
Effective date
Jan 1, 2024
We identified it
Jun 19, 2026
Summary
Effective January 1, 2024, Blue RI D-SNP members received new ID cards that no longer display copays or coinsurance amounts. D-SNP members continue to have 20% coinsurance for PCP visits (excluding annual physicals), X-rays, specialist visits, and Part B DME supplies, which must be billed to Medicaid.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update workflows to bill all D-SNP copays and coinsurance to Medicaid instead of the patient. Do not rely on ID cards for coinsurance amounts as new cards no longer display this information. If practice is not an approved Medicaid provider and cannot submit claims to Medicaid, patient cannot be billed for the copay/coinsurance amount.
