Summary
Specialists must now use the Health Trio referral tool to search for and obtain member referral numbers instead of contacting the patient's PCP office. Specialists are required to render services without having the referral in hand, as PCPs have 180 days to backdate referrals in the system.

Immediately: All specialist staff must begin using Health Trio to search for referral numbers instead of calling PCP offices. Contact your Provider Relations Representative if you don't have Health Trio access. Update front desk procedures to check Health Trio first for referrals before scheduling or rendering services.
