Summary
BCBSRI discovered a system error where CPT codes 99487 and 99490 were incorrectly paid despite being listed as Not Separately Reimbursed (NSR) since 1/1/2022. They are now retracting overpayments from 9/1/2022 forward and will deny future claims with reason code f12.
Action Required
Within next couple of weeks: Review incoming adjustment notices for CPT 99487 and 99490 overpayment retractions dating back to 9/1/2022. Update billing system to ensure these codes are flagged as Not Separately Reimbursed for Commercial and Medicare plans. Billing team must verify no future claims are submitted for these codes as they will be denied with f12 reason code.
