BCBSRI has added Fluticasone HFA to all commercial formularies as a preferred tier medication, effective retroactively to April 1, 2024. This provides an alternative inhaled corticosteroid option due to Flovent HFA discontinuation and Asmanex HFA supply shortages.
Action Required
Immediately: Update provider prescribing resources and formulary references to include Fluticasone HFA as a preferred option for BCBSRI commercial members. Inform providers that Fluticasone HFA is now covered as preferred tier and can be prescribed as alternative to discontinued Flovent HFA or supply-limited Asmanex HFA. Update any prior authorization workflows if Fluticasone HFA was previously requiring PA.
