BCBS Rhode Island expanded their Supervisory Protocol to include Physician Assistants working towards behavioral health specialization, effective July 1, 2024. These PAs can now render services under supervision of either a PA-BH or licensed psychiatrist in behavioral health settings.

For practices with Physician Assistants in behavioral health training: Submit your Supervisory Protocol to Behavioralhealth@bcbsri.org to establish proper supervision arrangements under the expanded policy. This enables billing for services rendered by supervised PAs.
