Summary
Starting January 1, 2025, BCBSRI requires providers treating substance use disorders to obtain specific 'Treatment, Payment, and Health Care Operations' consent forms compliant with federal Part 2 regulations. Claims will be denied if proper TPO consent is not obtained and documented.
Action Required
By January 1, 2025: Providers treating substance use disorders must implement new TPO consent forms that include patient information, disclosure statements, expiration/revocation language, and specific required elements per 42 CFR Part 2. Billing team must establish system to track which claims are subject to Part 2 requirements and maintain copies of consent forms for each applicable claim. Make records available to BCBSRI upon request. Failure to obtain proper consent will result in claim denials.
