Summary
BCBSRI has temporarily waived referral requirements for all plans for services provided between January 15, 2025 and February 21, 2025 due to technical difficulties some offices are experiencing. PCPs can continue entering referrals for dates of service after February 21, 2025.
Action Required
Immediately through February 21, 2025: Billing team can submit claims to BCBSRI without referrals for all plan types for services dated January 15 - February 21, 2025. Update staff to resume normal referral requirements for all services after February 21, 2025. No workflow changes needed during waiver period.
